EDIT: My friend now tells me that it works, but you have to configure it first.
So it turns out that after install, links are not opened in new tabs, you have to program it to open on certain sites. I mean seriously? What kind of logic is that?
The basic idea here is actually that people who would like an extension to open links in new tab, would not want it work initially, but through reading the fine print (which no one does) realize you have to input the web address for each and every site? That's crazy. Who would want to do that? Not only is it illogical, but most people will just think it doesn't work and uninstall as I did.
