Cant get version 7.3.4 to work. It always asks to install a new companion (1.2.4?), which I did as I am using Xubuntu, but the problem stays

Seit Einführung der Begleitanwendung spielt mein Computer verrückt wenn er diese anwendet. Die Festplatte arbeitet ununterbrochen und meistens stürzt am Ende der Computer ab oder alles ist blockiert. Ich frage mich auch ob diese Compagnon-app nicht auch den Computer mit der zeit zerstört, durch Überbeanspruchung. Früher funktionierte dieses Add-on perfekt. Heute stufe ich es sogar als gefährlich für die Hardware ein. Nun kann man alle Downloads vergessen die nicht über den Browser heruntergeladen werden können.

To get this add-on to work properly you have to install a companion application called 'VdhCoApp', but for some reason the developers fail to give you this information? When Video DownloadHelper updates, it will redirect you to another tab which says: "Congratulations, you just upgraded to Video DownloadHelper ... ". Watching something interesting or maybe you're in the middle of something important, well Video DownloadHelper doesn't care - you WILL be redirected! Honestly, who the hell thought that was a good idea, it's like having a virus on your machine! I tried the convert option, it took so long to do the conversion I thought it hadn't worked and there's absolutely no feedback whatsoever while processing the file. Overall, the UI is not very intuitive. Also, if you chose an ADP variant and the conversion feature has not been registered the resulting video contains a QR barcode watermark in the top left corner. There are better options out there which don't need a companion application, give you conversion options up front, and don't insert a watermark in your videos. Uninstalled.

no puedo descargar los videos, al principio era todo bien, despues los videos solo de youtube no puedo descargarlos. Y me sale actualizar la aplicacion pero no el boton para actualizar al abrir la pestaña

VDH was my favorite downloader for years.... but.... it has gotten SLOWER downloading videos. It used to DL 2 videos at a time.... now it only does 1 most of the time. One video I am trying to DL right now is only 5 minutes long but the DL time is estimated at over 2 hours when it used to take ten minutes or less.

Took forever to get it to work. Still not sure.

How does one get started downloading from YouTube?

What's the next step to actually doing it? GO WHERE?

Uma porcaria, não sei como tem tantas avaliações positivas, devem ser BOTS ou ROBÔS programados para postarem comentarios grotescos ... a extensão nao reconhece vídeos do Youtube e quando reconhece pede pra instalar software adicional... Facebook é o mesmo que nada ... nem sei porque existe esse app ... pra mim é propaganda enganosa!

It use to be simple. Select the stream, click it and it downloaded. Now it goes through 3 different steps and takes a much longer time. Having read the developers notes, this is a problem with Firefox which is becoming increasingly problematic in it's own right. Maybe we should give up and move to Chrome.

What happened to this good addon? Before, I just had to do a serie of download without checking everything, now it's just too slow and it works badly with the principal website for which I mainly use VDH (Video not fully downloaded, bad quality when the originals are actually really fine, etc .). The worst is probably that I can't get help to resolve the issues aforementionned since no one on the support answer to my call for assistance.

Update 2026: For some annoying reason it's now saving screenshots of videos into the firefox default download directory instead of the download location chosen for the video, why? I've been through all settings and there is no way to turn off these random screenshots.

2025 review: The new version is so incredible and makes life so easy. It could be updated to work with Facebook reels etc.
