5 stars rating for the uBlock team for staying very transparent about the permission requests. - Noté 5 sur 5par psshooty, il y a 6 ansPlease don't give a one star rating when you don't understand why the addon asks for your IP and Hostname. Read the release notes before rating this addon. This is one of the best addons and it is open source - so you can have a look behind the scenes if you don't trust it.
In short:
The reason for the new IP and Hostname permission is to block more and advanced advertising:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.25.0 - Noté 5 sur 5par ZoomerBoomer, il y a 6 ansOriginally this review was one star after getting the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice with the latest update. However, I was not fully informed of what this meant nor educated on how the WebExtension JavaScript API is laid out.
According to the developer and my own research, uBlock Origin has no access to YOUR IP address. The extension is asking for permission to access the IP address of the website/server you are trying to connect to. The reason why you may have seen or may now see the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice is because, IRONICALLY, uBlock Origin required more information from the servers being accessed in order to block trackers which had found a technique to bypass the filters/rules that uBlock uses. In order to do so, this was only possible by allowing the extension to access server-side DNS information, which is what triggered the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice.
So, be rest assured that this extension has not sold itself to the devil! We still have a reliable extension being developed by those with our best intentions in mind.

mis en ligne : il y a 6 ansuBO has no access to your IP address (and no need to access your IP address). The new permission is explained in the release notes and the wiki, see:

- Noté 5 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 13055231 de Firefox, il y a 6 ansEntendo que precisa dessa atualização, mas prefiro ir para outro bloqueador nesse caso!
- Noté 5 sur 5par scrub, il y a 6 ansSigned up specifically to leave this review after seeing the nonsense 1 star reviews in response to permissions prompt from the latest update. Per the other comments, READ THE RELEASE NOTES.
This is a fantastic add-on and Raymond Hill is an absolute champion. This project refuses donations and instead urges users wishing to offer their support to donate instead to the maintainers of open source filter lists, contrast this with say Adblock Plus and its "Acceptable ads" program which involves charging large institutions fees to whitelist their advertising.
Don't be a muppet and post knee-jerk 1-star reviews for an app which has done so much to keep the internet USABLE for so many of us. Do your research. - Noté 5 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 14054604 de Firefox, il y a 6 ansStill a great add-on. Regarding the recent update requiring IP and hostname permissions, see the dev's official statement on this below:
"Firefox 60+
uBO requires a new permission, dns, which is required to solve issue 780. This may triggers a new permission warning from Firefox when uBO updates to the latest dev build, specifically 'Access IP address and hostname information', even though this was already possible for uBO to access that information (through the webRequest API)"
