It's a potentially good service with seemingly all the features you'd want in a service like this but they don't always work or are all even present. I find a lot of the time it either won't suggest to unlock the extension when clicking on a login or password field and even the fill in keyboard shortcuts don't work - its been too intermittent to tell if it is only some sites or just a randomly triggered bug. Also very annoying, when I click to fill in a login and password it'll prompt Windows Hello Fingerprint randomly in the background so I have to click on it on the taskbar instead of it showing up in the foreground all the time as it obviously should. I also bought it for the premium features while the Firefox extension doesn't even have the advertised anti-phishing feature yet which is one of the reasons I paid for premium. So, they are advertising features that aren't even available which I think is dishonest which doesn't inspire trust in the company and their practices - it is strange that the supposedly most secure browser seems to be the least supported.

The above poses instant issues when considering the service for tech illiterate people as these problems are deal breakers. I want to set this up for my boomer mother who has been successfully phished several times but the fingerprint in the background bug will definitely make her think it's not there and therefore not working. Also, the non-existent anti-phishing feature advertised for the premium edition literally takes away the reason I would consider paying for a premium account for her.

These are all, however, grievances that could be easily fixed with competent non LLM vibe coding done by a real human being which could easily bump my rating up a star or two and pay for premium for my boomer mother but for now Bitwardem is mediocre at best and I can't recommend paying for premium to anyone and even the free version's bugs may pose problems depending on your tech literacy.

Bitwarden devs: you're close but you have to fix these things before I can recommend the service.

    The best password manager I have used to date. I wish it worked much better on Firefox for Android though. The autofill detection is very lackluster there.

    Nach dem nun mehrfach das Browser Plugin seinen Dienst versagt hat, nach einem Update (kein QM mehr?) und 5 Tage nichts passiert ist.
    Erstmal Autoupdate abgeschaltet (kann ja nicht euer ernst sein!)
    Schaue ich mich nach einer anderen Option um (passbolt wahrscheinlich) -> Umzug!

    Since the browser plugin has now failed to work on multiple occasions, following an update (no more QM?), and nothing has happened for 5 days.
    First, I turned off auto-updates (you can’t be serious!)
    I’m looking around for another option (probably Passbolt) -> Switching!

    Version 2026.8.0 à ne pas installer: plus d'accès aux éléments de connexion. Revenir à la version 2026.7.0, et attendre une mise à jour.

    I feel like the UI is not the best, but it does do the job. Please add webauth support like the chrome browsers have so I can use my security key to log in!

    Been working for quite som time, but after the latest update, no longer works.

    Please find other ways of storing passwords, cause Bitwarden is failing their users.

    New version is broken obviously but calm down, just install the previous version.
    open the main Add-On Page > scroll down to the bottom > Version History > click "See all versions" > install "Version 2026.7.0" by clicking "Download file" > install and log in

    Do NOT update to version 2026.8.0
    This latest release (2026.8.0, published August 20, 2026) is broken for many users. The extension opens to a completely blank white screen and becomes unusable. Vault does not load, login fails or hangs, and sync often throws Angular errors (including “Invalid time value”).
    Multiple people on Edge, Chrome, and Firefox have reported the same issue. Downgrading to 2026.7.0 or earlier immediately fixes it.
    Bitwarden seems more focused on pushing new monetization features (in-app upgrade checkout) than on basic stability. Please wait for a proper fix before updating. This version is currently unusable for a lot of people.

    I hate to do this, but with the latest version breaking vaultwarden, I have to give it one star. Please fix this and I'll go back to the 4 stars that the extension normally deserves. For now, I installed an older one and blocked updates, but I'll check back in a few days.

    UX is terrible. Pick example from Enpass extension and desktop version, far more usable than this. Sometimes it doesn't synchronize, even logging in again.

    Latest version breaks self-hosted Vaultwarden.

    Bitwarden devs, if you're reading this: If you made it so your docker implementation of the self-hosted variant would also only take a few megabytes of diskspace and 50-100 MB of RAM, then Vaultwarden didn't even have to exist in the first place!

    Right now, the official Bitwarden self-hosted option is a bloated heap of garbage.

    It's not as polished as other similar password managers' extension. Even newer ones like Proton Pass is miles better in UI and performance. Maybe it's better on Chrome but I don't use trash browsers based on Chromium.
