Simple Tab Groups par Drive4ik

par Henri, il y a 2 ansAs a recent Chrome uBlock Origin refugee, I was looking for something that'd replace chrome's tab groups.
This add-on does a little bit of that, but differently, and in several ways better.
First off, you WILL want to customize your browser toolbar to put the add-on icon to the top left of the app, right before the tabs. It's a much more natural place to use it.
Second, if you're using dark mode, the default icon is hard to see, and you'll have to tweak a config to fix that. It's spelled out in the "about this extension" page.
Third, if you multi-screen, this is MUCH better than chrome tab groups, since it allows you to trivially move tab groups between windows, and therefore screens.
I like that it can sync the tab groups into a bookmark folder.
The default group icons are awkward, but you can replace them with the favicon of any tab within the group, which solves that.
I just installed this a couple hours ago so I'm still wrapping my head around it, but I like it already.
I've got 12 tab groups already. Just don't expect it to be a drop-in replacement for Chrome tab groups. Take the time to wrap your head around the mental model of this add-on, it's worth it.
*Edit, now with more gripes!:
A dozen tabs or so (about 8% of my tabs) get detached from their group on every Firefox restart, which means on every Firefox update for me. I don't know why. It's not the same tabs each time. I tweaked all the settings I could, didn't help. I have to reassign the stray tabs in their proper groups after a restart, which takes entire seconds.
I'm kinda hoping this is going to stop happening on a future update. If I was a little less lazy, I'd probably try to debug it myself.

This most likely because he is being affected by the WAR in Ukraine, where he lives. Hoping for his safe return to programming tools like this.
FYI, There is newer code on Git that was submitted just over a month ago. I'm trying to figiure out how to install that and test it. - Noté 1 sur 5par nucky, il y a 23 joursUsing this for years, have to stop now and find an alternative. Do not recommend at all
Keeps hiding random tabs from random groups every day. Then you have to manually find the hidden tabs in the firefox hidden tabs menu and reopen them only for it to randomly close a bunch again - Noté 4 sur 5par TT, il y a 2 moisaddon "Hide Tabs" may help you unhide all tabs after firefox update problem

- Noté 3 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 19937432 de Firefox, il y a 2 moisWorked well until recently. Now every time you open FF after closing it, some of the tab groups are in different windows, some might be empty, and the backups just aren't there. This extension has totally lost its purpose as being able to save what you're doing through restarts.
- Noté 4 sur 5par EnergyMover, il y a 2 moisRestore backup no longer works with firefox May 13 2026 update! Looks like an abandoned extension. Been over a year since last updated. What a shame. It was the best of its kind!

- Noté 4 sur 5par antonavy, il y a 3 moisIt's really a good option for the lack of a better one... It gets the job done by hiding tabs from other "workspaces" into the hidden tabs list. Didn't notice a lot of bugs.
But a few things that really push me to use other browsers: it's not as elegant, very simple design, doesn't feel native and natural (compared to vivaldi, arc, zen, opera, etc); and two very annoying things: tab groups don't hidden, but are kinda empty, but still show previews, which brakes immersion and the fact that it spawns a directory every single day in your home folder ("STG-..."), and never cleans it up. - Noté 5 sur 5par Ron Elicit, il y a 3 moisMy favorite browser extension, hands down. Yes, the last Firefox update broke it. Need your tabs back? Settings > Backup Your Simple Tab Groups > Enable Auto-backup (you should be doing this anyway). Then Restore Backup every time you relaunch Firefox. (I delete existing data and revert to my last save.)
That's how I'm managing until the maintainer updates this extension. (Based on their location in Ukraine, I'm willing to give them some slack.) - Noté 4 sur 5par CarlosTorch, il y a 4 mois
- Noté 1 sur 5par rbx4, il y a 4 moisI don't know why anyone would use this. Does not reliably save tab groups.
- Noté 1 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 14179354 de Firefox, il y a 4 moiskeeps crashing when trying to restore backup. tab groups load but not the pages in them.
- Noté 3 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 16987590 de Firefox, il y a 4 moisIt's okay. But your max is going to be 4 groups before tabs/browser starts to feel laggy on MacOS.
