À propos de cette extension
This extension works out which advertiser is behind an ad and hides the ad when that brand's ultimate parent company is American. Every other ad on the page stays where it is.
Nothing is sold and nothing is replaced. There is no paid slot, no affiliate link and no sponsor. A hidden ad leaves a small maple leaf in the gap so the page does not jump around.
Every finding is readable. Click the leaf and a panel names the brand, the parent company and the public records the finding came from. The toolbar popup lists what was hidden on the page you are on. The whole brand list is in the settings page, searchable, with sources on each row.
If we have a brand wrong, allow it from the popup and it stays visible on every site from then on. There is a report link on every row.
Two switches in settings change what counts, and both say what they do before you throw them.
The first is on when you install. It also hides an ad when the ad itself is selling an American brand, even when the company that paid for the ad is Canadian. Turn it off and ads are judged only by who paid for them.
The second is off until you turn it on. It also hides shopping search results for American-owned brands.
The ad is hidden after the page has already loaded it. It is not blocked, so the advertiser may still record it as seen. This is a filter, not an ad blocker, and it does not stop tracking.
The brand list ships inside the extension. There is no server, no account and no network call while it runs. It does read the pages you visit, because reading them is how it finds the ads, but what it reads stays in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is collected. Your settings and the brands you have allowed are held on your own computer.
The interface is in English and French.
