You can use "Simple translate", it's another add-on with the toolbar button !

this lazy addon simply opens a new tab feeding the selected text to the google translate website. stupid.

It was awesome, literally perfect but last update totally ruined it. Removed button from toolbar and translates in new tab instead in popup window.
