Huge drop in performance since the last update. It feels like it was done on purpose.
Anyway, it used to be an excellent add-on, but now it's crap.

Worked fine. I bought lifetime premium and it stop to work and informed me to pay again to get premium. Still works on some websites

L'extension fonctionnait très bien jusqu'à il y a un mois à peu près. Maintenant ça télécharge lentement et en plus les téléchargements sont limités dans le temps. Il faut un premium et donc payer pour avoir ce qu'on avait gratuitement avant !!!!
Si ça continue comme ça je vais changer d'extension, c'est vraiment dommage car celle-ci m'avait bien servis durant des années.

The downloading functionality is perfectly successful and works excellently. However, the system generates multiple identical files with the same names, making it impossible to know which one I should actually download.

This is extremely frustrating, and the issue still hasn't been resolved. Please fix this problem. While there are no issues with the actual downloading process, I cannot distinguish between files when I try to download a video.

The file organization is very confusing:
1. The thumbnails or preview images are identical.
2. The filenames are exactly the same as the original file I'm trying to download.
3. It is unclear which file is which.

This is a major issue. Please address this and fix it as soon as possible.

I remember this addon from years long ago. I normally use other linux tools today but i have been trying to get a download while on a live disc and even though i changed the directory to a hard drive the temp files must be going to the drive / actually system memory and then i run out of space or the file becomes corrupt. The addon used to be a thousand times better but Firefox limited everything add-ons can do. only fix is go back to xpi firefox / fork called waterfox. anyway i still can't get a file downloaded to my hard drive. not sure where temp is going. i am thinking about downloading an extra copy of firefox and running it off my other drive and if that doesn't work i will have to find out how to move my linux temp directory to the other drive while on a live os without persistence. I am using Linux mint 22.3 and yt-dlp nightly failed me this time. first your blocked by the cloudflare challenge but i found a way around that passing my cookie and useragent but the website ended up not being supported after i passed that part. those websites that download from sites for you are all broken. If i could grab everything from firefox cache then mux it all together with ffmpeg this would be easier but to have enough space i will have to run firefox off an actual drive instead of the default one in the live environment .

What is wrong is normal downloads puts the temp file in the folder you selected to download to and this app doesn't do that and it should.

At first i tried save as. Yeah it just downloads to come cache or temp off the main disc that is actually in my system memory because of my live linux. The temp files should be in the same folder where the file downloads to even if that means adding a temp folder in that folder. This addon is borked until that is fixed. This addon was great in the xpi days. No way to get a file unless the file goes to my drive with space large enough for the file.

So I love this product, but the only thing keeping me from giving it 5-stars is a lack of a website blocklist in version 10, but 9 had a fully functioning one.

There are times when I get the SIZE of the video & times when I simply get the video DURATION.

Most of the time cannot download live streams at all, downloads audio only or stops downloading prematurely. Other than that - good and very useful add-on.

It was perfectly work, but now it make my mac freeze and foreced to shut down. I thought it consume too much cpu and heavy for my mac.. any way too many thanks, if you can solve this issue, of course i will continue to use it again..

Since version 10+ which ditched the companion app in favor of an integrated all-in-one approach, any videos I try to download from online streaming websites are saved in a broken unplayable state on my hard disk once downloaded. The only solution was to manually downgrade to v9.5.0.2 (which uses the companion app) + disable automatic updates. That fixed the issues. VDH developers, please take note. I will revise my rating upwards once these issues are resolved. I'm using it on Linux btw, so that may also have something to do with it.

Recently it started to work better, now more often than not it results in successful download. Still, 2 hours delay between downloads is excessive. 15-20 minutes would be much more reasonable. 3 stars, good, but could be better.

Started good, now creator want cash for downloading more then one video per 2 hours.

對新版本很失望，切換頁面之前偵測到的影片就不顯示了，而且很容易偵測不到影片要清除快取，同時顯示hls和m3u8的設定很爛，因為下載頁面變得很雜。我想找只顯示單一格式的設定卻沒找到，想找舊版本重下載，卻都是更早之前的ui比較簡陋的版本。
對新版唯一喜歡的地方是可以直接在頁面中先重新命名直接下載。

Sorry for downgrading. I really enjoy this app. However, VK.com is a major European, Asian, and Middle Eastern social media site. Like other sites, they are improving their prevention efforts to download media for offline viewing unless you use their proprietary tools. After several support requests, unfortunately, I've decided to downgrade Video Download helper from a 5-star rating in September 2025 to a 3-star rating base on the failure to provide a solution for many of their clips and download streams.

Used to work great but doesn't work after update

This extension saves me from buffering hell. The only gripe I have is with the documentation for the new Smartnaming method: I am not fluent in regular expressions and the few relevant options mentioned in the guide do not help me when cherry picking specific text on the webpage.

Until further notice I am using legacy mode so I can rely on XPath to search through div classes and specify normalizing white space, yada yada.
