Originally this review was one star after getting the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice with the latest update. However, I was not fully informed of what this meant nor educated on how the WebExtension JavaScript API is laid out.

According to the developer and my own research, uBlock Origin has no access to YOUR IP address. The extension is asking for permission to access the IP address of the website/server you are trying to connect to. The reason why you may have seen or may now see the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice is because, IRONICALLY, uBlock Origin required more information from the servers being accessed in order to block trackers which had found a technique to bypass the filters/rules that uBlock uses. In order to do so, this was only possible by allowing the extension to access server-side DNS information, which is what triggered the "Access IP address and hostname information" notice.

So, be rest assured that this extension has not sold itself to the devil! We still have a reliable extension being developed by those with our best intentions in mind.

uBO has no access to your IP address (and no need to access your IP address). The new permission is explained in the release notes and the wiki, see:

    In einer Zeit, in der man für jede Kleinigkeit ein Abo abschließen soll, ist uBlock Origin ein echter Segen. Die Entwickler leisten hier seit Jahren unglaubliche Arbeit, völlig kostenlos und ohne uns Nutzern irgendwelche Abos aufzuzwingen.

    Während fast alle anderen Adblocker bei YouTube Werbung mittlerweile versagen, hält uBlock Origin die Stellung und blockt die Werbung dort immer noch zuverlässig weg. Er zieht kaum Akku, braucht kaum Speicher und macht das Netz einfach wieder benutzbar. Man merkt, dass hier Leute am Werk sind, denen ein freies Internet wichtiger ist als Profit. Danke!

    I couldn't imagine using the internet day-to-day w/o uBlock Origin. My work computer can't have uBlock due to my employer's organization settings. Fortunately, I have my personal laptop right there next to me, but from time to time I'll use Microsoft Edge on my work computer to browse for something and the lack of uBO is crippling. I've put it on my parents' computers years ago and they don't even know what kind of infuriating torment they're missing out on.

My mom and my sister both installed it after watching me use it, and now our family group chat has way fewer “Why is this site so broken?” meltdowns. For me, uBlock Origin isn’t just an ad blocker; it’s a little guardian that makes Firefox feel sane, respectful, and entirely mine.

    Update:

    Just did exactly that, deleted and Reinstalled extension, after making a backup. With none of my Settings and just the Default it is back to working again on Investing.com going to check CNN.
    One of my All-time Favorite Apps! However, it notoriously has problems with CNN.com's Paywall and even More so with Investing.com like the stock Indexes or Futures Pages. I wrote the designer, and he helped me to get it working, for a Little while, then back to not working, at all. Investing.com just doesn't work at all. I may have corrupted the Settings or something idk. I have a feeling, I need to delete and Reinstall the App completely and it *May* work. Wish I could prevent it from happening, in the First Place, would be Nice. Works flawlessly, on Just about every other Site.
