troch Anthony, 7 jierren lynI was previously using a different addon, Neat URL. I disabled that one so I could give ClearURLs a proper try. However, I realized that every time I restart Firefox, ClearURLs gets disabled, and Neat URL is re-enabled. Suspecting some sort of misbehavior from Neat URL, I fully removed Neat URL. However, even after that, ClearURLs is still showing as disabled in my addons list every time I restart Firefox. What's going on? I've never seen this behavior with any other addon.
EDIT: I figured out what was going on. Back when Mozilla had the certificate debacle that resulted in addons getting disabled en masse for everyone, I made my extensions.json file read-only as an attempt to keep my addons forcibly enabled. After the official fixes from Mozilla, I forgot to uncheck "read-only" from extensions.json. ClearURLs was the first new addon I've tried since that time. Anyway, when I tried to disable all my addons as a test, they came up as re-enabled when I restarted Firefox. That's when I finally suspected my extensions.json. So, I realized that was still read-only. Fixing that, now everything is working as expected. I'll update my ClearURLs rating to 5-stars.

- Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch notleks2411, 12 dagen lynHonestly, it's a good extension to have, and I really appreciate the effort put into it. However, I find it breaks some sites, and I manually have to toggle the filter off which gets very annoying. I can also confirm at the time of writing, it breaks the AI search on Google.
I would consider this an essential extension to have. But be prepared for it to bork some websites which will require manual intervention. - Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 19119289, 24 dagen lynBreaks Google search AI mode (gives error message "Can't generate an AI overview right now. - On Mozilla / Add-ons / ClearURLs
- "Last updated 2 years ago (Feb 5, 2025)"
- "Write us... If have any suggestions or complaints, please contact us on GitHub." (with link to issue list)
- On GitHub / ClearURLs / issue list
- "New issue" cannot be clicked (has no hyperlink) and its tooltip says "Issue creation is restricted in this repository". So, cannot add a new issue on GitHub … Ok, let's search more on GitHub.
- On GitHub / ClearURLs
- "If you have any suggestions or complaints, please create an issue." (with link to GitLab, not GitHub 😫)
- "[…] or email us rules.support (at) clearurls.xyz (this mail will automatically create a new issue in this repo)"
- On GitLab
- GitLab allows to create a free account, but you must give a bank account (but yeah, trust'em, it's free 😏) and a phone number. A no-solution for me.
- An e-mail sent to "rules.support (at) clearurls.xyz" gets a response "A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its recipients after more than 72 hours". Let's try elsewhere, there must be a solution.
- On the homepage (clearurls.xyz)
- "Last update: February 5, 2025"
- No contact page linked. No site map to find where it can be.
Nope, I've run out of solutions.
So basically, good in the current state of the web (2025~6) but as more time passes, the worse this add-on will be. - Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Azuki, ien moanne lynmade logging in via google impossible with error 400 somehow. dont use this

Sometimes you don't mind the things this targets because they are actually necessary for functionality. Good example: When I go to my health insurance web portal, a different company handles the online payment. When I click to pay on web portal, it opens their website, and uses a lot of things ClearURLs auto-cleans to tell that payment site who I am without me needing to explicitly log in, and in fact doesn't have a normal log in method for said site, so I have to turn of ClearURLs... to pay online for my health insurance.
This is far from the only situation I've ran into with this. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Tets6723642, 2 moannen lyn
