Newsguard is not "funded" by USAID. Certain parties that spread lies are always trying to demonize the fact checkers.

An excellent service, well-worth the small monthly fee. It clearly shows the extent to which sites can be trusted, as well as explaining how these decisions are reached.

I am very impressed by the ratings, which are well-researched and explained for each outlet, with sources to back up the findings. I find the plugin very useful when I encounter an unfamiliar news outlet. The ratings are pretty much non-partisan, so as long as you are not a conspiracy theorist, they should sit well. A good rating still does not mean you should believe everything you read, of course!

This add-on's opinion of relaible news is the same as mine so I'll give it 5 starts.

The app was founded by one right-leaning and one left-leaning news entrepreneur, and their advisory board has people that worked for both Democrat and Republican administrations. Read their detailed reviews of sites, not just the nutrition label, before you knock this extension. It is a needed resource these days. They also have adjusted ratings based on communications with the sites they review, and this is included in the detailed article. As a more liberal news consumer, I have used the extension to both widen and fine-tune my news consumption, finding solid sources on the other side to check my own narrow lens and also finding out shortcomings with some of the sites I frequent.
