troch Volvith, 4 jierren lynUp until recently i haven't had any problems with NordVPN, but that's changed in the last 2-3 months or so. Recently they've started using LOCAL ISP's IP addresses for their services, which means that their prime selling point, being security, anonymity, and access to local blocked services and websites is pretty much null and void.
DO NOT USE THIS EXTENSION, as you do not have control over what IP your traffic is routed, and there's a good chance they'll use local (from the same country you are from) ISP's to assign you an IP.
IMPORTANT EDIT: Not just that, when refreshing your IP, or when the application randomly changes IP, it exposes your IP/network to your ISP, without any apparent killswitch built in. Citation needed, because there is a chance your network is still encrypted, but i somehow doubt that.
They'll say 'we choose the IP based on what's best for you', completely disregarding the problems with that. IP's change randomly quite often, which means that there's a chance that you won't even notice you've rolled into a local ISP when it happens. Refreshing your connection will often give you the same exact IP address as well, and you don't have an option to select a specific IP address in any way, shape or form.
Bypassing local restrictions is one of the number one reasons to get a VPN these days, and failing to deliver on the promise of that service is to fail as a VPN service.
I will not be extending my subscription past march this year (end of term), and i will not be returning to NordVPN.
I don't believe a 1 star review is warranted, since the service, operationally, functions quite well. The speeds are decent, and the ease of use is tempting to say the least, but the fact they're using local (national) ISP's for their services, paired with some of the other security concerns that have come up in the last 2 years regarding NordVPN (look them up if interested), i can not in good conscience recommend this extension.
Encryption alone means nothing if you cannot access services that are locally blocked by IP/DNS.
If you're looking for a good VPN service, there's better ones out there.
I for one, can no longer trust NordVPN with the security of my internet traffic.

4 jierren lyn pleatstHello. Please note that the VPN connection depends on multiple factors. We do offer a Kill Switch feature within our apps, as well as an option to purchase an additional static Dedicated IP. If you’re experiencing streaming or website accessibility issues, we'd suggest trying disabling the Threat Protection Lite feature in our app settings and clearing your browser cache. If the matter persists, do not hesitate to contact our support team at support.nordvpn.com for further assistance and more information regarding your concerns. We'd be happy to help! -G.M.

Wtf. I don't care if that's different wording of existing permissions, I don't want you to have those permissions, NordVPN.
If you look at the Proton VPN extension it only requires permissions for Access your data for account.proton.me and account.protonvpn.com. Whereas for Nord it's required to access all website data, not optional. If Nord needs to access data for account information, they should restrict it to Nord domain(s), rather than leaving it open for this extension to be able to read all website data. That seems like an implementation improvement they can make, rather than excuses.Antwurd ûntwikkeler
ien moanne lyn pleatstHello! Thank you for your review. Please note that despite the different wording, the same permissions as previously are used and we do not collect any additional information. While we cannot comment on other services, website access is required for VPN to run on them. If you'd like more information or have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@nordvpn.com. -D.S. - Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Shadi, ien moanne lynNordVPN is pushing an update to force data harvesting including privacy data and payment information. Even from paying users like me!

ien moanne lyn pleatstHello! Thanks for noticing. A few days back Firefox update changed how permissions are displayed, but we haven't introduced any new data collection. The broad language refers to existing info like your subscription ID and currency. We remain dedicated to privacy and only use the data necessary to keep things working for you. -L.L. - Wurdearring: 5 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 16263539, ien moanne lynDon't panic, this is a Firefox policy change, not a NordVPN data grab.
NordVPN hasn't introduced any new telemetry, tracking, or background data harvesting. They simply pushed an update to comply with Firefox's new rules. Because this is a premium, account-based service, it naturally handles:
Authentication: Your Nord Account login/email.
Financial Info: Checking your active subscription status so the extension actually works.
Location: Finding the closest, fastest VPN servers to route your traffic.
Chill. It's exactly the same Nord VPN service we've been getting all along.Antwurd ûntwikkeler

ien moanne lyn pleatstHey, yesterday we had a Firefox extension update approved, and Firefox is now showing broader consent categories for data the extension already used. No new data collection was introduced on our side. The wording may look alarming, but in reality it refers to things like subscription ID/type, payment status, currency, etc. We remain committed to collecting only the minimum data necessary to provide and maintain the service. -L.L. - Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Atman, ien moanne lyn
- Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 16751809, ien moanne lynWhat the heck is that 🤨 ? Private data harvesting... for a privacy related product.
One could start think about if our data is actually private when using Nord products.
If this won't be reverted no way I'm gonna prolong subscription.
---
Edit: (forbidden URLs: look for ["Announcing data collection consent changes for new Firefox extensions" site:blog.mozilla.org] in search engine)- is what I assume is L.L. referring to.
I'd like to see explanation then why it was collected up until now, just simply policy was not requiring to explicitly be stated up until now.
Can this really, really cannot be avoided?Antwurd ûntwikkeler
ien moanne lyn pleatstHello! To be clear, no new data collection was introduced with yesterday's update. Firefox is now showing broader descriptions for existing data like subscription IDs and payment info. It might look alarming, but we are still focused on data minimization and only use what’s essential to provide the service. -L.L. - Wurdearring: 3 fan 5troch dg9281, ien moanne lynAs other commenters mentioned, its started to force privacy data harvesting, including financial information, forms, and payment data.

ien moanne lyn pleatstHello there. We understand the concern, but no new data is being collected. Firefox recently updated their consent categories for data the extension already used, such as payment status and subscription type. While the new wording sounds broad, our policy hasn't changed - we only collect the minimum data required to maintain your service. -L.L.
