I've used this extension for years and it's always been a little questionable at who it labels as positive or negative. Seems these days some bad actors are the main users. I was really confused when I started a tumblr account and kept seeing red users then just looking at their profiles they were just like normal people with intersection view points the *VAST* majority were just regular trans men... Looking more into it it seems this is intentional..

Arguably was useful some years ago. Now it pretty much got taken over by bad actors, racists and intersexists, people who got angry at some other trans person and radicalised people who are only bothered by transphobia if it's against them specifically.

This extension claims to help keep trans people safe, but users of it mark random intersex people red in order to cut them off from community. There are also mental health resources marked red not for trans-related issues at all, but because they are for "controversial" conditions like DID and OSDD.

I've seem people who post rhetoric that is incredibly intersexist and exorsexist marked green (e.g., arguing that someone who says they are transfem and transmasc are actually just transmasc).

Not to mention any black queer person who dares to be vocal about anti-blackness in the white queer community, gets marked red — regardless of how supportive of trans people they are.

I saw this all the time back when I used the extension on Mastodon. And it's just as bad on Tumblr.

In addition to the above, it's frequently misused on those critical of the use of TMA/TME terms, especially on Tumblr.

Said terms force trans men and enbies to reveal their gender assigned at birth, and ignore the fact that bigots *do not care* if someone is actually a trans woman or not when discriminating against them. "Misdirected" transmisogyny towards a trans man being mistaken for a trans woman can still get him killed just as easily. Yet if said trans man identifies with this term based on real experiences, he is seen as misappropriating it.

The guidelines were very clear on how to label people; green is for people who advocate for trans people. It doesn't require subscribing to a specific subset of ideas within transgender activism.

This extension is arguably worse than useless depending on what sites you're using. If you do use it, do not blindly trust the labels, and do not trust anyone telling you that all criticism of the extension is based in bigotry.

This is a reminder that anyone can submit a label, whether they got angry at someone in a media debate, or meticulously scrolled through someone's profile before deciding how to label them. Do not crowdsource your decision-making.

This used to mark actual transmisogynists and actual transphobes in general as red, now the extension just marks trans people, non-binary people, intersex people, and people of color as red for no reason. If you hate marginalized groups, this is the perfect extension for you. If you really want to see if someone is actually transmisogynistic or not just check their blog instead. Relying on this extension to always be correct is like relying on ChatGPT to always be correct. And for the positive reviews, it's not transphobic nor misogynistic to call out this extension for what it is. Stop watering down words used to describe people's oppresion. It's obvious the users supporting this extension are just TERFs pretending to care about trans rights.

In my experience, those marked red tend to fall into two categories: "person/group so outwardly transphobic that the marking, though accurate, is unnecessary" and "trans/nonbinary/intersex person who got into argument with a(nother) trans person but showed no evidence of transphobia, even when I went looking for it." Not every marking falls into those two categories, but the latter happens frequently enough that I don't trust Shinigami Eyes to be accurate when it actually matters.

I thought all the 1 star reviews were just a bunch of transphobes but no this thing just randomly marks people, basically anything that talks about trans people will be marked red regardless of context

Shinigami Eyes is very effective and has helped me steer clear of transmisogynists. It's true what they say that a majority of the negative reviews are transmisogynists who were marked red by the eyes and instead of self-reflecting and looking inward, they instead get angry and give this extension 1 star. Highly recommend using it, it's helped saved many trans women from bigoted interactions from cisgender bigots and transmasculine people who are incapable of empathizing with anyone different from them. (Love, a transmasc person <3)

I do think there are silly red ratings that don't actually help with anything, such as rating historical figures (wow are you telling me Hitler was transphobic?), the addon is solid. You really cannot always trust someone who is marked green, but if you are a transfem, you sould really stay away from anyone marked red, no matter how much they whinge about it. Every time I checked, there was good reason to mark them red (participating in mass harassment campaigns, constantly being antifeminist, being friends/mutuals with actual radfems, peddling male/female socialization type rhetoric and other bio-essentialist garbage). 100% of those 1 star reviews are from transmisogynists and it's clear to see. When they talk about radfem trans women, they're not referring to the small minority of transfems who try to recycle actual radfem ideology (an incorrect position) but any trans woman who might've read Whipping Girl or has a basic understanding of intersectionality or is just a bit too uppity.

Take their 1star reviews as good reason to install this addon.
