- An ok at best stop-gap measure to reduce the annoying anti-features currently being forced on users by every single website to woo venture capitalist investors drunk on marketing copy from trillionaire companies hemorrhaging billions selling a fundamentally unprofitable and useless product promising those things will soon change citing non-committal rumours of "massive changes just around the corner" and making silly comparisons to popular fictional computer AIs. (Like how companies were selling "hoverboards" a few years back as if we had revolutionary Back to the Future 2 style personal hover technology all of a sudden, rather than cheap segway knockoffs that occasionally exploded due to manufacturers cheaping out on components while still selling at a premium, and many of the same types of people ate it right up as the next big thing because of the association in their heads)
The "AI" nonsense should really be opt-in rather than opt-out.
Especially since it's very easy to forget and have an unwanted "answer" generated at you, wasting time and electricity for no good reason while there's a climate crisis we're all fully aware of, while every country's power grid is still mostly powered by fossil fuels, where every offsetting of green energy however minimal serves to increase the impact of said crisis one drop in the bucket at a time, while also creating unnecessary irritation at the reminder that this garbage dead end technology still exists, and that some people apparently think a chatbot that quotes nonsense pseudo-answers Frankensteined together out of probabilistic linguistic token matches trained off non-consensually scraped fiction materials and social media posts from *social media users* who are already notorious for parroting misinformation and biased misconceptions, drowning out the comparatively miniscule number of experts, is better than just reading a paragraph long Wikipedia instant answer typed by an actual person who more likely knows what they're actually talking about...
The extension just adds a search engine to the browser and switches the default instead of requiring users to add a custom link. It doesn't, for example, redirect duckduckgo searches from other programs opening tabs in-browser to the noai version, requiring an additional add-on for redirection.
The extension also does not work on mobile browsers, and the noai.duckduckgo site has to be manually set as a custom search engine even if the extension is installed or synced from a desktop browser. - 5 段階中 5 の評価jitterbird によるレビュー (1ヶ月前)

- While I appreciate how easy DuckDuckGo makes it to permanently disable AI features in their search engine for users, I find it kinda hilarious that they'd rather release a bunch of "anti-AI" features instead of just removing the AI features entirely, like they should.
Like you BUILT the AI nonsense you're trying to save us from, you don't get to play BOTH sides of the marketing here. - it really is miserable knowing that this makes duckduckgo one of the only search engines that has an opt-in for generative ai rather than an opt-out. this could have (and should have) been made into the default experience for everyone using this search engine.
don't get me wrong, it's great that this is a thing... but this has me worried that duckduckgo won't do more than this to address the problems with an opt-out system.
hopefully, this becomes popular enough that it sends a clear message to duckduckgo and other search engines. i know i don't want to deal with this opt-out nonsense, where it feels like i'm being cuffed to something only to be given the key to free myself whenever i want. - 5 段階中 5 の評価Firefox ユーザー 17097903 によるレビュー (3ヶ月前)
