wouldn't load. when it did, it was sluggish. when i finally was able to click to connect, it popped up just as i did it, blocking me, begging me to review this product i pay a substantial amount of money to use every year. here's your review. i hope you're happy. but knowing it, it won't even stop popping up asking me to review it, will it?

I love it when I press a certain location connect to it for half a second then connect me to whatever location is actually closest to my actual location. What is the point of a VPN if it choses a server where I LIVE???? If your going to do this auto connection crap atleast add blacklist like the windows app.

Every 10 minutes or so when connected to a Proton VPN server with the extension, all websites stop working and the extension just displays a continuous loading icon when opened. This can only be fixed by either turning the extension off and back on again, or completely closing Firefox and reopening.

Slowed down my Firefox connection by 90% ~10Mbps.
Not seamlessly integrated with Windows Proton VPN apps, working separately.
Split tunnel doesn't always work.
Overall proton VPN performs better than Mozilla VPN but this extension definitely needs more work.

When this works it works well. Even bypasses a frequent public wifi that doesn't accept vpns, by using secure core.

When it doesn't it frustrating. On Windows 11 and Arch linux I have issues after sleep or browser restart the extension may fail to load properly. When this happens when I click on the extension all it does is show the load circle. While in this state it may say its connected or may not, but when it says its connected there is no internet connection (which is good I guess? A kill switch feature would be nice). The only way I've been able to fix this is by disabling the extension and re enabling.

The other instance is when the the extension has an exclamation or X on it. These are the worst because they allow network traffic through, which if I have a tab open it auto connects to the site without a vpn connection. The only way I've been able to fix this is by disabling the extension and re enabling.

Only reason I am using this vpn is because it is very privacy focused, but this doesn't mean much if the extension malfunctions and lets traffic through.

Only using this extension because Proton's actual native software pipeline on Arch-based distros is an unmitigated mess. The standalone protonvpn-cli is essentially abandoned to Python dependency rot, and the official GTK desktop app crashes on startup over basic package mismatches like pydantic-core. Having to downgrade a paid system-wide VPN down to a basic browser addon just to get a functional connection on an Arch-based system is ridiculous.

EDIT: The details are already in the review. The issue isn't my desktop environment; it's that Proton's native Linux app stack relies on uncontainerized, unpinned Python site-packages that break on modern Python 3.14 runtimes. Stop asking for screenshots of known upstream packaging failures and pin your dependencies so rolling-release users don't have to rely on Proton's browser proxy.

ne fonctionne plus. cercles tournant sans interruption. je suis sous linux mint + firefox. edit : ça refonctionne en désinstallant l'extension de firefox puis en la réinstallant puis connexion à proton :)

I am a Debian user. I also use Proton Pro. After trying many services, I settled on Proton because I have a lot of data to protect in a trusted cloud storage service, and I use my own domain for my personal email through Proton Mail. Proton VPN is included, and I am very satisfied with it. It never fails, either as a Firefox extension or as a VPN app.

Actual dead weight for my browser, this extension seems to only work when it wants to and its not often it does. I'm constantly fiddling it because it'll randomly stop working completely and make me lose access to the internet.
