9달 전에 게시됨Thank you for your feedback. It’s important to address concerns like this with clarity.
The decision to stop updating the GitHub codebase was unrelated to data collection. It was made after someone cloned the open-source project, made minimal changes such as renaming and rebranding it, and then published it as a separate extension. While open source allows for reuse, republishing under a new identity raises concerns and prompted a change in how PhotoShow is maintained.
As for data collection, we never tried to hide it. Anonymous usage data was introduced starting from version 4.50.0 — well after the last GitHub update at 4.36.0. This data helps improve the product and is entirely anonymous. Full details about what is collected are clearly outlined in the privacy policy, and there’s also an option to disable it in the settings.
Currently, data collection is disabled by default for Firefox users due to additional development requirements on that platform. That's also why the option for disabling usage data collection is not present for Firefox versions. PhotoShow complies with the privacy and safety standards of all supported browser stores, which is why it passes their strict reviews for each update and remains available.
Your concern is fully understood, and hopefully this explanation helps clarify the situation. Cheers!

Edit on 9 Aug 2025, in response to user edit:
As mentioned, PhotoShow’s usage data collection can be disabled in the settings. You can also manage extension access on a site-by-site basis using the browser’s native permissions. If these features or the strict reviews conducted by browser web stores cannot be trusted, there is little else that would help—since an open-source extension could still release something different.

- It works when I need it, but I can't keep it on.
The default settings were already too overactive, but I could turn those down.
The biggest issue comes with copy.
The copy function will copy an image instead of text often when it is confused by a background.
It would avoid this if it used custom hotkeys, but it not only overrides the standard copy hotkeys and does not allow the user to bind their own.
So I turn it off, and if I ever need it I can turn it on, but it probably won't happen often.개발자 답글
15일 전에 게시됨Hi, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. It’s genuinely helpful.
Regarding the copy behavior, PhotoShow’s image copy shortcut is "C", and it’s designed not to trigger while "Ctrl" is being held or the focus is on an input element, so standard text copy actions like "Ctrl + C" should continue to work normally.
If keyboard shortcuts ever feel too intrusive, all shortcut actions can already be turned off individually in PhotoShow’s settings. The same actions can also be accessed through the browser context menu (if enabled), so you’re not limited to shortcuts.
As for "custom shortcut bindings", that’s already planned and currently on the roadmap, as it’s something others have asked for as well.
That said, if you’re still seeing PhotoShow interfere with normal text copying even when using "Ctrl + C", that definitely doesn’t sound expected. Please feel free to reach out via email or join the PhotoShow Discord community with more details (for example the affected site/page and steps to reproduce), and I’d be happy to look into it further.
Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback and for giving PhotoShow a try. - 5점 만점에 5점Firefox 사용자 10031114 님, 한 달 전Smooth and fast working on Geenstijl VrijMoBo :)media.tumblr

한 달 전에 게시됨Hi, thank you for your feedback!
PhotoShow should work well on pbs.twimg.com in most cases. If you’ve encountered any exceptions, feel free to reach out via PhotoShow’s Discord community or email with specific page links—I’d be happy to take a look. You can find these contact options in PhotoShow’s popup window. 5달 전에 게시됨Thank you for your feedback. PhotoShow works for GIFs. The support for videos will also be introduced in the future.

Edited - 28 December 2025:
Thanks for reporting the gif issue for DeviantArt, it has been fixed in update 4.84.0.- The extension adds a pop-up with a larger image (disappears as soon as the cursor stops pointing at the thumbnail) and a context menu with the following options: "Open HD image in new tab (Tab)", "Save HD image (S)", "Copy HD image (Alt + C)" and "Copy HD image address (C)" (can be disabled). Additionally, there is the option to display full-size image details, save with one click, and rotate/mirror.
Cons: In Mozilla Firefox 146, some keystrokes are not intercepted by the extension, but are used for quick search on the page. Half of the issues in the bugtracker are in hieroglyphs.개발자 답글
6달 전에 게시됨Hi there, and thank you for your feedback!
PhotoShow only intercepts its shortcut keys when doing so won’t interfere with the page’s native interactions. This means that if a focused interactive element with its own key actions (such as a text input) is active (focused), PhotoShow will NOT intercept those keystrokes — even if the image viewer is currently visible. (Just a note: hovering the mouse over an image usually doesn’t change the page’s focus.) Native page interactions always take priority.
If this doesn’t fully clarify the issue, feel free to report it via GitHub or email. Cheers! - 5점 만점에 5점Firefox 사용자 18642173 님, 6달 전
