Removing something like the amount of votes something has gotten, hides what people agree and disagree with, allowing one to form an opinion that's not based on the click of a button from other people. Votes aren't helpful unless one is building a brand. Now one can ignore the votes and focus on the (hopefully) constructive responses to the post / comment instead.
