Lost most of my bookmarks... and DAMN I didn't back up first...*(&*%#

#edit dec 4th 2017: I could get a backup and almost have all my (duplicate) bookmarks back.
@Martin: I didn't press an unfortunate button combination. What I did was start the add on, select 'keep first, remove duplicate'and then pressed GO. I have almost 5000 bookmarks in total (dupes included), so the progression bar went by every 20%, until 100% was reached. It then took quite some minutes for Firefox to get up and running, only with just a fraction of the bookmarks that it supposed to have (should have been nearby 2500 left, which it didn't). So there's something with the amount of bookmarks that the add-on is limited to process....

PS: If you want, I can contribute to your project and help translate to dutch

There was an edit of the comment indicating that there is perhaps really a bug in bookmark-dupes (although so far, I was not able to produce the described problem in any testing and had no other such report.)

Since I had switched off localization of bookmarkdupes' webpage (due to various problems) it seems that all related edits of this discussion got lost.

For reasons like this, this is not a good medium for communication about a bug.

Therefore, I opened https://github.com/vaeth/bookmarkdupes/issues/22 (but if you prefer we can also discuss instead by email).

Translations are always welcome, of course. (Preferably by a pull request on github, but if you are not familiar with git, drop me a note and we will find another way.)

    Может выглядит аскетично, НО оно делает ровно то что нужно! До этого попробовал другое дополнение, и работать с ним было не возможно, показало сотни дублей и что дальше? В вашем всё продумано для результата - устранение дублей! с 4500 -> 2700

    the bookmarks may look gone for now, but the real world test is when you sync to a new computer and sign into firefox, the remotely remembered bookmarks will all come flooding back...

    If you want to remove the remotely stored bookmarks, you should make sure that you are logged in when you remove them.

    I've been on Firefox since soon after it came out; somehow, over the years, I've inadvertently added duplicate, not just of single bookmarks, but of entire bookmark backups. Your addon is what I have needed for years. It cleared out several hundred duplicates. Many thanks! John

    Великолепное расширение! Я перебрал десятка два отдельных приложений (все, какие нашел) и расширений (проверил ещё не все) - и лучшего по функциональности нет. Здесь сочетается удобство, мощь, гибкость настроек, наглядность результатов и компактность кода. Было собрано около 35000 закладок из разных браузеров, ~22000 дублирующих закладок было удалено этим расширением предельно аккуратно в течение получаса!
    В случае остальных приложений за это время удавалось либо вручную удалить из неудобного списка пару сотен ссылок с риском ошибиться, либо... дождаться окончания загрузки закладок в приложение.
    В прочих проверенных расширениях для Firefox либо результаты поиска представлены несистематизированной свалкой, либо вовсе отсутствуют.

    Так что искренне рекомендую Bookmark Dupes от Martin Väth!

    It's slow down so much it makes frozen the app. It's waited for10 minutes without any response. It's just about 18000 -24000 bookmarks to process, certainly from several bookmarks from different times.
    Interesting fact is the same addon from the same author works perfectly!!! ..in chrome based browsers(time to response fast to not:chrome,brave,vivaldi).

    As already written to quite some comments, the normal deletion speed is several thousands bookmarks per second. A considerable slower speed is almost certainly due to a bad configuration, e.g. another extension which plugs into the bookmark API and takes time for every bookmark deletion. You might want to retry with a plain firefox configuration (after saving and restoring only your bookmarks). BTW, the code for the chrome and firefox extension of Bookmark Dupes is practically identical as you can see on github.
