av Firefox-användare 14336689, för 4 år sedanI use Linux Mint, currently v.20.3. The Installation instructions for NordVPN on Linux are terrible, and that is being generous. You are told to download the VPN Debian app, which did not work! it installed but would not launch. Next I tried launching NordVPN form the terminal. It worked after a fashion. The issue here was that there is no visual representation of the status of the connection, which I had to keep checking and found it had frequently dropped. I eventually found how to connect via the network manager at the bottom of one of the pages of instructions. That worked (at last!!). Then the next day I stumbled across how to add the NordVPN extension to Firefox and Chrome based browsers on yet another page of instructions. That gave me a visual in the browser of the VPN status.
Honestly, It was a unbelievable faff that took almost 2 days of swearing and reinstalling.
Nord you seriously need to organize your Linux instructions far better than they are at the moment.
My biggest gripe with Nord is that the customer support chat client is absolute garbage. Once you are past the bot and directed to a customer service rep the wait is totally unacceptable. I waited 3 times for over and hour and still got no response from a human.
For Linux users and those that may need customer services Nord is not the best, by a long way.
Once all is installed (eventually) most things seem to work well, especially the browser extension connections.
But there is a caveat to this, use a speed checker on each server. I have found that some servers are running at less than half the speed of others, though allowing Nord to connect to its selected server in any country usually results in a good fast connection.
This may seem like a lot of moaning, but this is a paid service that is actively courting Linux users, so the need to get their act together regarding documentation (or simplify the installation and the customer service bot.)
Now that I have everything sorted I prefer Nord to my previous VPN. I have knocked off one star because of the nightmare installation process for Linux users.

Wtf. I don't care if that's different wording of existing permissions, I don't want you to have those permissions, NordVPN.
If you look at the Proton VPN extension it only requires permissions for Access your data for account.proton.me and account.protonvpn.com. Whereas for Nord it's required to access all website data, not optional. If Nord needs to access data for account information, they should restrict it to Nord domain(s), rather than leaving it open for this extension to be able to read all website data. That seems like an implementation improvement they can make, rather than excuses.Utvecklarens svar
postad för en månad sedanHello! Thank you for your review. Please note that despite the different wording, the same permissions as previously are used and we do not collect any additional information. While we cannot comment on other services, website access is required for VPN to run on them. If you'd like more information or have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@nordvpn.com. -D.S. - Betygsatt 1 av 5av Shadi, för en månad sedanNordVPN is pushing an update to force data harvesting including privacy data and payment information. Even from paying users like me!

postad för en månad sedanHello! Thanks for noticing. A few days back Firefox update changed how permissions are displayed, but we haven't introduced any new data collection. The broad language refers to existing info like your subscription ID and currency. We remain dedicated to privacy and only use the data necessary to keep things working for you. -L.L. - Betygsatt 5 av 5av Firefox-användare 16263539, för en månad sedanDon't panic, this is a Firefox policy change, not a NordVPN data grab.
NordVPN hasn't introduced any new telemetry, tracking, or background data harvesting. They simply pushed an update to comply with Firefox's new rules. Because this is a premium, account-based service, it naturally handles:
Authentication: Your Nord Account login/email.
Financial Info: Checking your active subscription status so the extension actually works.
Location: Finding the closest, fastest VPN servers to route your traffic.
Chill. It's exactly the same Nord VPN service we've been getting all along.Utvecklarens svar

postad för en månad sedanHey, yesterday we had a Firefox extension update approved, and Firefox is now showing broader consent categories for data the extension already used. No new data collection was introduced on our side. The wording may look alarming, but in reality it refers to things like subscription ID/type, payment status, currency, etc. We remain committed to collecting only the minimum data necessary to provide and maintain the service. -L.L. - Betygsatt 1 av 5av Atman, för en månad sedan
