Asking for Personally Identifying Information when previously didn't. Dev denied anything changed but then I see these video analytics and world heatmap features which yeah would probably require knowing my location. So nopin out of this

The analytics are aggregated. For example, it may record that “6 users from the US disliked this video,” but it does not know that one of those users is you or who you are.

For voting, the extension sends the video ID, a randomly generated user ID used to count votes, and the vote itself (+1 or -1). It does not ask for your name, email, address, or other identifying information.

And if you’re still uncomfortable with vote submission, the option to disable it has existed since the early days of the extension. When vote submission is disabled - you don't send anything at all (but your dislikes don't count - so it's up to you)

    Sucks the extension is getting reviewed bombed for something small, I would just prefer to have the dislike button work on private windows also

    RYD hasn’t changed how it handles your data. Mozilla changed the way it labels these permissions - what the extension does with your data is the same.

    The extension uses only the data needed to show dislikes and count votes.

    Its site permissions cover YouTube and its own API at returnyoutubedislikeapi.com. RYD doesn’t read other websites, and these site permissions cannot be used to access them.

    Here’s what those permissions mean:

    Personally identifiable information - RYD’s randomly generated, anonymous user ID, used to count votes. This isn’t your Google or YouTube account.

    Browsing activity - opening the next YouTube video, so the extension can send its video ID and fetch the new dislike count.

    Website content - things like the visible like count, which helps calculate dislike estimates.

    Website activity - clicking Like or Dislike.

    Again, this is about YouTube activity. The extension isn’t watching everything you do across the internet - it simply can’t do that with these site permissions.

    The new labels can sound scary, but they don’t allow the extension to access more websites.

    Hi, Mozilla's policy "no data collected in private windows". And counting your vote counts as "data collection".

    So I need to implement extension to detect that it is in a private window - and it should stop sending votes. It is not difficult - but I was short on time and wanted to get FF fixes to people faster. So it was easier to just disable it in private windows alltogether - not to get punished for non-compliance.

    I will work on this soon.

    I only hope that extension is allowed to make a request with video ID (to get dislike counts). Because technically this could be deemed data collection too - not sure yet.

    And yeah - the policies are new - people are still learning how they work, and Mozilla are still figuring it out themselves.

    May be some wording will be improved.

    There should be a difference between this extension sending a randomly generated userId to count votes - and some other extension that steals your name, address, email and phone number. But right now they both are "collecting personal data".

    "Personal information" - is the random user ID generated by extension to count your votes.
    And if you don't like it - you can disable it in the settings. It's how extension worked since day 1

    I'm writing this for other reviewers in case they read it. Firefox did change their policies, they implemented more clarifying information options regarding permissions and data, which they require the developers to use, but these options are too broad and they kind of backfire, and despite what the developer of this addon claims, it's a failure on Firefox's side.

    And no, this addon DOES NOT simply revert Youtube's change of removing the dislike counter. Nobody knows the exact number as it is inaccessible, hence the app requires data to calculate a close estimate based on user activity. Literally nobody can "just return Youtube dislikes".

    Edit: "RYD hasn’t changed how it handles your data. What changed is Mozilla’s wording for these permissions - not what the extension does with your data." That's what I was trying to say too. Mozilla is asking for more / different clarification, but they are only confusing things in some situations, like here.

    "requires personal information" is a false red flag, the dev has confirmed it, the project is still being handled by the original creator and isn't being used for datamining.... riiiight Dmitry?

    I still don't trust the extension because the basic SponsorBlock already does the job, and this one stores way more information. In any case, I think you shouldn't have started by popping up that huge window saying we need premium users to pay for the server, I’m not arguing that it’s not important, but maybe you should have, I don’t know tried to reassure users instead of just popping up a small window to explain why the privacy update is necessary, and only then shoving the premium option in our faces? Think about how you present information, and then maybe there wouldn’t have been such a negative reaction.

    The extension is actually recommended by Mozilla, so they do not consider it harmful or dangerous.

    It’s shown only once during the lifetime of the extension, and it’s timed to appear after a browser restart - hopefully the least disruptive moment.

    Handling YouTube-scale traffic and storing dozens of terabytes of like/dislike data on a school-lunch budget ain’t that easy. The funding from these features is what keeps RYD’s servers running.

    used to use this extensionn. and well just as i was settin up firefox after switching oses i realized it now had these permissions. added the extension anyway and loaded a yt vid and saw a pop up tehre. then i instantly removed it. this extensions purpose was to just simply bring back a count not this crap. mozilla please remov that "recommended" badge from the extension thank you

    Hmm... I'm not sure about the recent permission changes, but I will choose to believe your words that it's because of Mozilla's new requirements. Leaving a 5 star to combat the review bombing.

    That being said, it would be a good idea to make the reasons for the change more public and widespread. It is very easy to misunderstand your intentions.

    EDIT: Upon deeper research, it seems the fault mainly lies in Modzilla and their abrupt new changes. I'm sorry this upsetting situation has happened to you.

    It's not even "fault", it's just a bit of unfortunate choice of words. They don't tell people that I only access YouTube, and on YouTube - I only use a randomly generated UserId - to track votes.

    From the notice it looks like now I'm collecting all the data on all the sites

    I don't care if Mozilla recommends it or if you super pinky promise not to collect more than is needed for the addon to function. The permission is far too broad for me to ever accept it.

    EDIT: You can make whatever excuse you want. The permission is too broad. Piss off.

    It's not a super pinky promise - it's stated in the extension permissions - it has access only to YouTube.

    And as for the the rest - it's opensource, so anyone can check (and verify that you download the same code from the FF store)

    Reply to dev: ****You are a liar.***** No law requires a developer to generate or collect a unique identifier from users.

    New update - it now collects personal information and spams advertising for a "premium" version.

    Ruined extension.

    Delete and report.

    They are scamming us by using the Mozilla recommendation system.

    The problem is that most people imagine that I use their emails\names\etc. I do not.

    And even this random user ID can be disabled in the settings.
