What does it mean when there's a "?" on the badge? How can I fix that? It's not clear if this extension is working or not.

I am having the same problem another user is having. I have a '?' but no notifications. I just sent an email to my Hotmail account but nothing showed in the notification box. However all I need to do is click on the box and it brings me right to my Hotmail account.
