by Firefox user 13482431, 6 years agoUpdate: Tried to use this as this is the one of the only ones that seems to "work" on the mobile Firefox platform. But today I had to uninstall it. The script that this addon keeps crashing and I have to either "stop script" or "continue" when it does crash the page. This addon is absolutely clumsy... Grateful that it is free, but even though it is free, it is unuseable...
OLD:
I really tried to love this extension. After getting a notice that a Dark Mode extension was no longer certified or checked or whatever the mozilla folks are determining safe use was no longer safe, I switched over to this one since it was "recommended" and seems like mozilla was ok with it (whatever the hell that means).
The interface is clumsy, can't you just implement a simple switch?
When you do turn it on or off, you have to refresh the page, which sometimes destroys the content of the page.
I really really tried to like it, not give it one star cause you deserve an extra start for effort, but the quality of this extension is an F. It's clumsy, too many options (just give us dark mode, 99% don't care to tweak the little things, it gets in the way).
Why are "dark mode" so hard to implement? Just flip the white to black, black to white, and if the pages don't come out right, we'll just force it back and complain to the webmaster. I just don't get it.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 16143547, a day agoWorks on most sites, though there's currently a memory leak issue when using it on Reddit. Memory usage climbs to 6GB+ for a single tab. I'll update my rating if it's ever fixed.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Kelly Bryan, 3 days agoReally solid extension. Clean and lightweight, fits perfectly into my workflow. Does exactly what it promises.

- Rated 2 out of 5by gleb-yukhymenko, 3 days agoFrom my experience of using the extension, the add-on seems to be unsatisfactory at best, and unusable at worst. For instance, basically every site that I visited had the logo at the lop-left corner of the screen blend in with the background in terms of color. It will also sometimes just not work as expected, and by sometimes I mean almost all of the sites that I visit. Even the site on which I'm writing this review (addons(dot)mozilla(dot)org/) is in white mode while running the extension. You should really fix your utility before asking users to donate $10 (which happens immediately, mind you).

- Rated 2 out of 5by zaibutzu, 9 days agolatest May 7 version makes reddit totally unusable, crashing the site
- Rated 3 out of 5by Webzilla, 10 days agoWith the latest Firefox update (version 150.0.2, May 7, 2026), this extension causes slow-down in the Reddit website, and only there. Screen updates lag or become unresponsive for long durations on the Reddit site. Firefox then shows a notification bar right below the address bar saying Dark Reader is causing the slowdown. Please fix if you can.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19918529, 12 days agoWorks pretty well, but they broke something with the most recent update, and it's causing a huge memory leak. I had to go back to 4.9.124
- Rated 1 out of 5by Lou, 12 days agoUsed to be great, but more and more it'll make some sites like run 10-30x slower until they crash your browser tab. (Tested and confirmed it was this extension)

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13373464, 17 days agoOne of the OG addons have to be removed finally. Loved this addon for years but its at the point now it is very noticeably slowing down my pages. Sometimes to the point of freezing the entire browser.
IMO the addon needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.
