Proton VPN: Fast & Secure par Proton, Proton Team

- Noté 3 sur 5par Namecito, il y a un anIt never worked since I installed it like 3 weeks ago. My case is the same than the one of the previous reviewer. I need it mostly for one website. When trying to enable it I get the same error: "Network error..." Firefox and add-on are updated, 115.26.0es and 1.2.9 respectively. Not using any other proxy or VPN.
Update due to developer's reply: I'll contact you providing info on the questions asked. I would like to add that I just tried the Chrome extension and it works. So it might be something related specifically to Firefox.
Update 2: I solved it. When filling up the support request I decided to give it a last try and discovered that when installing the add-on there's a fugacious message I can't read nor accept that precedes the aforementioned error. So I recorded my screen and play in slow motion and saw there's a message asking for permissions. After googling I went to the add-ons page and selected the extension and then its Permissions tab and enabled them and it worked. Might be kind of a bug that prevents the message to stop.Réponse du développeur

Are you using any other extensions for privacy/security purposes? Do you have any antivirus or firewall app installed? Contact us by clicking on Help in the Proton VPN extension, then selecting 'Contact us' so we can investigate further. - Noté 3 sur 5par Ariel, il y a un anWhile this extension has its merits, it has a critical flaw that significantly impacts its usability for me. Since last year, the connection has become unstable in China, and there are times when I simply cannot connect, no matter how many attempts I make.
Additionally, the login process requires accessing the proton.me domain, which is not feasible in China. I have to use other tools to bypass the Great Firewall just to log in to ProtonVPN, which is quite absurd. The whole point of using ProtonVPN is to access the internet freely, yet I find myself needing to circumvent restrictions just to use the service.Réponse du développeur
mis en ligne : il y a un anWe're sorry to hear that. The reason you're experiencing this issue is due to the very aggressive restrictions in China. Our team is working hard on improving our infrastructure so that all our users are able to connect more easily. We will continue to make more improvements to enhance service availability despite the ongoing blocking attempts.
Meanwhile, you may consider downloading the official Proton VPN app for your specific OS to see if you're able to connect more easily. If you cannot access our website in order to do that, please contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support/contact or https://proton.me/support/contact, or simply send us an email directly at support@protonvpn.zendesk.com so we can assist you further.

Which specific server(s) are you connected to in the process? Have you tried multiple different servers? Contact us at protonvpn.com/support/contact with more details so we can help. - Noté 3 sur 5par ks, il y a un anThe speed is fast and it's free, which is nice. However, no matter how many times I try to reconnect, it always connects to a server in my country and never to servers in other countries, so I would like to see an improvement.
Réponse du développeur
mis en ligne : il y a un anThe default Quick connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. That said, you still have the option to switch to another randomly allocated server by disconnecting and reconnecting again, or you can upgrade to connect to a specific server of your choice. - Noté 3 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 18321893 de Firefox, il y a 2 ans

“Not active on every website or active only on this website” We didn't ask you to reinvent America. I think you are using stalling tactics because you don't want to do it. I made a comment like this for an application I don't want to name, I was directed to the website, but the website feedback form was not working. I hope I made myself clear.Réponse du développeur

Please contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support-form if you have any specific questions, concerns, or requests regarding Proton VPN. - Noté 3 sur 5par BZ, il y a 2 ansMostly works well on Windows 11, until your computer goes to sleep. After you wake it up, Firefox has no Internet connectivity until you close and reopen Firefox, or disable the Proton VPN extension.
Developer response:
"Sorry to hear that. Could you share more details about the issue? What version of Firefox do you currently have installed? Are you receiving any error messages after waking the device from sleep? Are you using any other extensions for privacy/security purposes? Contact us at [support form URL] with more details so we can investigate the behavior further."
My response to developer:
I filed a support request with details last week and haven't heard anything. I'm disappointed to see a response to my review here before getting a response from support. But since I'm getting a response here:
Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.4460
Firefox 132.0.2
Proton VPN 1.2.3
No error messages (unless I open up the Browser Console)
Other extensions in use include uBlock Origin and DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials.
The problem immediately goes away when I disable Proton VPN after waking from sleep. I can quickly toggle the extension off and back on and Proton reconnects and everything works from that point.Réponse du développeur

- Noté 3 sur 5par Ramouz, il y a 2 ansI have their paid VPN. The browser version of Proton VPN is limited. It's sad. I don't like talking like this because I like their service and speed, but there are so many things missing in all their apps, such as the Windows version, Android version, and the one in browsers.
Split tunneling is lacking on all devices and none have the same features. The one on the browser has the one I want, by website, but you can't include. As in, if you only want it to run on that website. You can only exclude so that it doesn't run on that website.
The one on Windows doesn't have website but IP or apps. You can include/exclude there but we desperately need the ability to add websites there and to decide per website/app/IP if we want to include or exclude. Same on the browser extension. Same on Android.
Here in Firefox, it's also missing a favorites list and the ability to choose a default. Same on Chrome/Edge. All 3 of their apps/extensions look different and behave different and have different settings. Really bad design.
None of our settings sync so you have to set it up each time in every browser, phone, computer OS.
Missing other information and settings.
Considering the number of clients they have, servers, and money they're making, they should easily have the budget to improve and streamline them all.
Will edit review after they update. - Noté 3 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 18581894 de Firefox, il y a 2 ansAlways says "unprotected", even when VPN is active. Uninstalling for now since the software does not seem to add value.
What should happen / to improve rating.
Extension should function as expected by:
- When connected through a VPN, extension should indicate "Protected".
- When not connected through a VPN, extension should indicated "Unprotected".

Doesnt save login data well
- Noté 3 sur 5par Alex, il y a 2 ansGood server with good speed. The add-on is not bad, but there are sometimes connection drops. The biggest disappointment is that every time me open the browser, the add-on does not create a connection automatically. Each time I have to log in to my proton account and only then manually create a connection. For comparison, the same Proton extension works flawlessly in the Google Chrome browser.
- Noté 3 sur 5par Utilisateur ou utilisatrice 18009887 de Firefox, il y a 3 ansI see others have reported the same issue, but it is necessary to disable and reenable the extension almost every time you use Firefox. Otherwise, the browser will not load anything.
- Noté 3 sur 5par roke_julian_lockhart, il y a 3 ansCan't use without a subscription, unlike the OS-wide client. When it automatically reconnects upon browser reinitialisation, its GUI never loads, and it prevents all requests receiving responses.
