I appreciate the effort that it takes to write plugins so no hating here, just comment on why this wasn't a solution for me. Firstly, as others have said, it takes a while to kick in. It plays a few seconds of the video before it is stopped. This is annoying (mostly for my neighbors). Secondly, the stopping pre-load feature effectively means that one has to click twice to start the video, once to stop pre-load and once to start the video. I used the suggestion that itge13 made in one of the comments (the simple change to the config file) and it works well, so I uninstalled this plugin. It needs a bit more work but on the other hand, the about:config method is quick, easy and works (in Firefox at least) so I see no point in further development.

    It works, but you have to click 3 times to play a video.
    - Click once to open the video.
    - Player loads and video can start briefly before the plugin can stop it, this is coming from the way YouTube optimizes video pages to start playing ASAP.
    - Plugin stops the video and shows the 'unloaded' view.
    - Click the unloaded video to opt-in to playing it, still doesn't play.
    - Click again to play. I don't know why you have to click twice here, but that makes three total.

    It would be nice if clicking a video from the subscriptions or algorithm list would start playing immediately, but using back/forward or revisiting an old tab would not auto-play.

    Currently, it works as advertised, i.e., it stops YouTube videos from autoplaying. Moreover, it does this better than all the other 4 add-ons I've used previously.

    Edit : Spoke too soon, there is a setting for that !
    But sadly, it doesn’t seem to work… It only makes backgroud tab bug.

    It works just fine (latest browser, no problems with other extensions). The Only problem i see is that you sometimes have to click 2x to have it load and play. Another problem: In comparison to another browser, it loads the video about 4-5 Seconds, whereas the other Browser feels like it starts after 1-2 Seconds. But overall: it works so Videos don't start on their own. I don't know why YT did that BS and removed it, but that extension is definitely putting it back, despite a little bit of clunkiness.

    Using Debian 12 (32 bit); it stopped audio playing when enabled; double checked; I don't know whether it had any effect on auto - play.
