BUT before you close the browser you need to disconnect from the VPN bc if not you might get stuck in a limbo state but it is fixable

I am absolutely exited about Proton VPN! Everything is so great in the service and this plugin particularly. Also, I'd like to mention that Proton helps to so many low-on-fund people by giving them opportunity to use it free (with random location).

Having an issue with the split tunnelling not working. When trying to watch a Youtube video it will endlessly buffer if connected to certain counties, even though I have it and all subdomains excluded from the VPN connection. The video will load when connected to my home country, so something about the subdomain exclusion isn't working as intended.

Would love to have it sign in to proton with different password, but still 5 / 5

a great extension. works well without bloat in it. For free users, this is especially good, since you can protect your privacy on the internet for $0. This is honestly awesome, and the only free VPN I'd trust.

Hello, glad to see that these reviews are actively monitored and responded to. A major issue that I have had with this extension for ages is that I cannot pin certain locations to the top of the country list, or set a certain location as default as is possible in the mobile app versions of ProtonVPN. It is tedious to have to always search or scroll far down to get to the desired location. Please add this feature.

Einziger Wermutstropfen ist ein drastischer Rückgang der Download-/Upload-Geschwindigkeit bei manchen Cloud-Anwendungen, speziell beim Übertragen von Daten im GB-Bereich. Dieses Problem lässt sich zwar lösen, indem man das VPN kurzzeitig deaktiviert – was allerdings nicht Sinn der Sache sein sollte.

Für meinen persönlichen Anwendungsfall ist dies vertretbar, da ich hauptsächlich meine eigenen Cloud-Lösungen nutze.

ProtonVPN runs flawlessly for me, without any interruptions or errors. General usage is very reliable.

The only drawback is a drastic drop in download/upload speed with some cloud applications, especially when transferring data in the GB range. While this problem can be solved by briefly disabling the VPN – this shouldn't be the goal of the product.

For my personal use case, this is acceptable, as I mainly use my own cloud solutions.

A quick update to my original review. I'm giving this extension five stars now. It's behavior has smoothed out over time.

While the connection badge on the browser toolbar button is still sometimes red when it should be green and vice versa, it still works and passes all the tests I can throw at it. So, I do trust it when the only thing I want is a VPN while browsing. It does not and should not be expected to serve as a replacement for the Proton VPN desktop app.

Great extension.

My only gripe is that sometimes it stalls while connecting and the browser cannot load anything, while the button to disconnect/connect is unresponsive. To resolve the issue I need to either disable/re-enable and restart the browser, or reinstall the extension. It's happened a handful of times so it's worth pointing out.

Still, I definitely recommended this extension if all you're wanting is VPN in the browser because I've been a customer for many years and Proton is about the only organization I'd say I trust enough when it comes to privacy protection.
