Keepa is my favorite tool for shopping on Amazon. It’s a fantastic app that empowers users and helps them make better purchasing decisions. I’ve been using it for about 2 years. I use it primarily for checking prices when I shop, although it has nice features for price notifications/alerts as well. When I shop, I’ll look at the Keepa chart (it’s right on the Amazon page a bit below the product listing) and see if the item is currently priced low or high relative to its price history. Usually I have the price history set to look at 3 months, but I regularly toggle it to a year or the entire history of the item to look for trends. If an item has a history of going on sale at certain times of the year, I will plan to buy it then. I LOVE this app for that. I recommend it to everyone who shops on Amazon.

    I've been concerned recently with this extension failing, but good to see the dev being transparent about why. I could not even tell anyone how long I've had Keepa installed - it's been a long time. Fantastic extension.

    Sorry - twice is twice too many.

    The first prompt was Firefox's new data disclosure, mandatory for every add-on since Firefox 140. Nothing about Keepa changed, only the labels.

    The second was us removing one of them: "personally identifying information", which was only ever your Keepa account token - now labelled "authentication information". Firefox re-prompts whenever a label is added, even when the list gets shorter.

    It works exactly as it did before. What's left is browsing activity, because a price chart requires knowing which product you're on, and the account token. Nothing is logged unless you track something.

    No further prompts expected.

    The "authentication information" is your Keepa account login authentication to store your settings and enable price tracking. Nothing else.

    Keepa does not track your browsing history or collect personal data. The extension only runs on Amazon product pages to load price charts, and nothing is logged or stored unless you choose to track an item.

    Keepa does not track your browsing history or collect personal data. The extension only runs on Amazon product pages to load price charts, and nothing is logged or stored unless you choose to track an item. The "personally identifying information" warning in Firefox is just Mozilla's rigid label for your account login token (not your name or email), and we've asked them to update it.

    The item tracking and alerts were changed to subscription, not great but I understand, at least it was still working directly on the Amazon website. Then got an alert from Firefox about the extension asking for concerning new permissions.

    I guess is time to say goodbye and find new alternatives.

    While the extremely worrying "new" permissions may just be an artifact of Mozilla new categorizing for disclosure, the module still seems to go behind the user's back using his browser to execute unrelated requests for it.

    Whether this is abnormal in relation to Mozilla or Amazon guidelines, and GDPR, and the requirements for the developers, I cannot properly evaluate, but I'm still concerned about.

    I would encourage the developers and users to eg read Wladimir Palant's blog post titled "Data exfiltration in Keepa Price Tracker".

    Thank you for sharing your feedback. We would like to clarify a few points regarding the blog post and explain the updates we have made to the add-on.

    The post by Wladimir Palant contained several sensationalized claims and key factual inaccuracies regarding how our add-on handles data. While we appreciate community oversight, many of the assertions made did not accurately reflect our module’s design or intent.

    To eliminate any ambiguity and address user concerns directly, our latest update completely removes all background data collection capabilities. The add-on now functions as a minimalist wrapper designed solely to embed the price history chart, ensuring maximum privacy and transparency while maintaining core functionality.

    Was Keepa macht: Auf einer Amazon-Produktseite sendet es die ASIN dieses Produkts an keepa.com, um den Preisverlaufsgraphen zu laden. Diese Angabe wird weder protokolliert noch gespeichert.
