A year ago, this tool was just a spell and grammar checker. There was no mention of AI on it's home page.

Now it's decided to revamp itself as an "AI tool".

Which means one of two things:

Either it is, genuinely, more of an "AI tool" now than it used to be, in which case it gets an immediate boot from my browser. If it's been an "AI tool" this whole time, training a large language model off my text, I regret not removing it sooner.

Or, they're trying to pick up on the current marketing craze and slap "AI" on their basic spell check and grammar tool which is less insidious than it is annoying and sad.

Either way, it's been real, but nothing that is or claims to be "AI" is allowed on my browser. Seeya.

"training a large language model off my text" - we don't do that, and our privacy policy is very clear about how we use the text.

    I self host this on my Linux laptop, the browser plugin makes it usable, and since I self host, it is private as well. Good solution that actually improved my own writing.

    As of lately, wants a subscription even for simple grammar check, with bogus reasoning. Basically lying to the user, why its necessary to pay now. All of a sudden.

    The overuse of AI is getting tiring. I dont want an "enhanced experience designed to make my writing sound more professional, eloquent and solid", I want a spellcheck that works on several languages, the list of which I can choose from and customize. It was perfect before, there was no reason to change it

    It is a good tool but you only get a 14 day free trial after which it requires you to pay

    This extension used to be great and it worked perfectly for years. Then all of a sudden it starts with annoying popups all the time and it no longer works. What a shame.
