troch Firefox-brûker 19564633, 2 moannen lynProtonVPN by itself is not bad, in fact it is by far the best VPN service I have used till date. But this extension? It is more worthless than a boat on land.
The problem is that it never loads anything and just displays a window with a spinning circle on it, and the circle keeps spinning till I crash out and delete the extension.
Here's the process:
1. I pin this extension and then click on its icon
2. A small window appears and its loads... something.
3. It keeps loading.
4. It keeps loading.
Forever.
Yes, I reinstalled it multiple times.
Yes, I updated firefox.
I even rebooted once. Did not work at all. The ProtonVPN Linux CLI did though so its definitely not a network issue on my side.

- Wurdearring: 2 fan 5troch night, ien dei lynWhen this works it works well. Even bypasses a frequent public wifi that doesn't accept vpns, by using secure core.
When it doesn't it frustrating. On Windows 11 and Arch linux I have issues after sleep or browser restart the extension may fail to load properly. When this happens when I click on the extension all it does is show the load circle. While in this state it may say its connected or may not, but when it says its connected there is no internet connection (which is good I guess? A kill switch feature would be nice). The only way I've been able to fix this is by disabling the extension and re enabling.
The other instance is when the the extension has an exclamation or X on it. These are the worst because they allow network traffic through, which if I have a tab open it auto connects to the site without a vpn connection. The only way I've been able to fix this is by disabling the extension and re enabling.
Only reason I am using this vpn is because it is very privacy focused, but this doesn't mean much if the extension malfunctions and lets traffic through. - Wurdearring: 4 fan 5troch Phan Nhanh, ien dei lyn
- Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch ms5678, ien dei lynOnly using this extension because Proton's actual native software pipeline on Arch-based distros is an unmitigated mess. The standalone protonvpn-cli is essentially abandoned to Python dependency rot, and the official GTK desktop app crashes on startup over basic package mismatches like pydantic-core. Having to downgrade a paid system-wide VPN down to a basic browser addon just to get a functional connection on an Arch-based system is ridiculous.
EDIT: The details are already in the review. The issue isn't my desktop environment; it's that Proton's native Linux app stack relies on uncontainerized, unpinned Python site-packages that break on modern Python 3.14 runtimes. Stop asking for screenshots of known upstream packaging failures and pin your dependencies so rolling-release users don't have to rely on Proton's browser proxy.Antwurd ûntwikkeler

After trying many services, I settled on Proton because I have a lot of data to protect in a trusted cloud storage service, and I use my own domain for my personal email through Proton Mail. Proton VPN is included, and I am very satisfied with it. It never fails, either as a Firefox extension or as a VPN app.
- Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch noodle, 4 dagen lynActual dead weight for my browser, this extension seems to only work when it wants to and its not often it does. I'm constantly fiddling it because it'll randomly stop working completely and make me lose access to the internet.

I’ve had a great experience with Proton VPN’s Firefox extension. It’s simple to install, quick to connect, and works reliably without slowing down my browsing.
My normal connection is around 950 Mbps download and upload, and I typically get 800 to 900 Mbps when connected to a premium Proton server in New York City. That is excellent performance for a VPN.
Proton VPN also works across all major platforms. Proton Unlimited, or Proton VPN Plus with Proton Pass, offers great value for privacy focused users. Overall, it’s a fast and user friendly VPN that I’m happy to recommend. - Wurdearring: 1 fan 5troch Firefox-brûker 20145436, 7 dagen lynDoes not load, constant spinning circles.

Works fine on Chromium-based browsers. This is important and needs to be fixed yesterday. People might be browsing the web without any protection, since they don't realize their connection to this VPN has been lost for so long now.

The icon on the toolbar will be lit up green like it's connected and working fine, but no website will load, so I'll click on the extension and will just get an endless spinning wheel that never loads. This happens multiple times a day at random, making using the extension pointless.
