від Користувач Firefox 19947022, 4 місяці томуThe bad thing about protonvpn free is that it assigns you a server based on your IP. Proton may be collaborating with authorities. Something we don't know internally, and they can already know your IP. So when you connect you are assigned to a free server but what you don't know who is connected to that server can be you alone or with other people. Another thing is that it uses VPS, dedicated servers are in England, we all know that England is an ally of the United States so draw your conclusions. What I don't understand is why one cannot choose which server to use and not that the system itself assigned me based on its preferences.

оприлюднено 4 місяці томуThe default Connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. That said, you still have the option to change server, or you can upgrade to connect to a specific server in a country of your choice.
All of the Proton VPN servers use static IP addresses, which means that the same IP address is shared between all users connected to the server, and the IP address is the same all the time for that particular server, unless the server itself is changed. However, this does not apply to the free and Secure Core servers, which are selected from a pool of servers in order to balance out the load. As for dedicated IPs, we support multiple other countries: https://proton.me/support/dedicated-server-locations.
Lastly, we're not collaborating with any authorities whatsoever. I've had to disable the extension multiple times because it causes Firefox to hang forever when trying to load any webpage. Similarly, I've had it struggle to establish https handshakes on websites that work instantly when disabled. Both problems seem to come and go unpredictably.

- Оцінка 2 з 5від Користувач Firefox 20200639, 3 дні тому1. Why the number of servers are significantly less than the App version? Some countries only have just a few servers, which tend to have high traffic during busy hours. Why limit users choices just in the browser extensions version???
REPLY to Devs: Your statement doesn't sound right. So I'm located in North America and let's use Country A as example, it only has like 15 servers in the Firefox extensions, but in the Proton App (both desktop and mobile), Country A has 50+ servers to choose from. Tell me how is this "smarter load-balancing"???
2. Recently it has become very buggy, not sure if it has anything to do with the recent firefox updates. It sometimes struggle to connect a single server, or simply any server at all, and I had to manually kill the extension in the broswer setting, then turn it back on.
REPLY to Devs: Yes latest Firefox and latest extension (which hasn't been updated since early August by the way). Of course I have other extensions installed (who would only have Proton VPN installed while using Firefox?) Reading through the other comments, I'm not the only the person having this issue. What is the point of a VPN if it choses a server where I LIVE???? If your going to do this auto connection crap atleast add blacklist like the windows app.

That said, you still have the option to switch to another randomly allocated server.
